Ah September! The leaves begin to change colors, the air gets cooler, and pumpkin spice everything hits the shelves. It’s also one short month before Digital Ocean’s Hacktoberfest

We look forward to this event every year because we believe that open source is vital to software development. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to solve tough challenges, make awesome friends, or even be able to build apps with Flutter.

Our team is deeply invested in the open source community, whether it’s creating our own packages like very_good_analysis, contributing to existing code, or supporting open source libraries like bloc.

This year, we plan to host two events to showcase our 💙 for open source software and encourage the Flutter Community to participate in Hacktoberfest. Join us!

For beginners and seasoned developers alike, this virtual session showcased best practices for contributing to open source projects — from opening an issue to merging the PR. The session concluded with a one-pager for participants to download our very good tips on contributing to open source and a list of recommended packages ready for contributions.
